GREAT DENHAM PARISH COUNCIL
Great Denham Parish Council was created in 2007 to serve the needs of the local community. The initial 249 houses will gradually be increased by another 1500. We aim to represent your views and concerns as the community grows.This web site exists to ensure that as developments in Great Denham progress everybody in the community has the opportunity to keep themselves up to date with the latest news – have your say, sound off, give your views, express your concerns become interactive and have some impact! Members of the Parish Council want to change the way traditional councils work. We want to truly act for all the parishioners and give honest and best judgement by being informed and in touch with all views, so what better way than through this site?
Each Council member has an email address which you can find under "Councillors" in the navigation menu on the left hand side of this page. You can also see who your Parish Council members are by visiting this section of the site.
The agendas for our meetings and the agreed minutes can be found by clicking on "Official Council Documents" in the navigation menu. The Chairman also makes a regular contribution to The Biddenham Bulletin, which you can see on the "Newsletter" page of this site.
JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS TO TAKE PLACE ON SUNDAY 3RD JUNE 2012
Planning for The Great Denham Community Jubilee Picnic and Fun Day is well advanced and you can see details by clicking here. The event will have a traditional feel and we hope as many of you as possible will come along to enjoy the fun. There will be races for children, bouncy castles, face painting, craft activities, a tug of war, not to mention a DJ to keep things lively. There will also be a community art project which you can contribute to, and which will be displayed in the Community Hall once it is built. The event will take place on the "kick about" area off Mercia Road and signs will be in place in case you don't know where this is. A bar will be available, but please bring your own picnic fare.The Committee will keep you updated via this website and the parish notice boards. The next, and final, meeting of the Jubilee Committee before the event will be on Wednesday 23rd May at 7pm in The Bedford Golf Club. Please come and join us.

THE MAYOR OFFICIATES AT THE "TOPPING OUT" CEREMONY OF GREAT DENHAM PRIMARY SCHOOL
The Mayor of Bedford was present to officiate at the "topping out" ceremony for the new Great Denham Primary School on 28th March. The Headteacher Denise Burgess was also there, as was the Portfolio Holder for Education David Sawyer, and the Chairman of the Parish Council Jim Weir. The lovely weather added to the sense of optimism that this important milestone creates for our community.
THE GREAT DENHAM GATEWAY FEATURE IS OFFICIALLY OPENED BY THE MAYOR
The Mayor officially opened the Great Denham gateway feature on 28th March, following the "topping out" ceremony at the new Great Denham Primary School. Also there to see the gateway opened were David Sawyer the Portfolio holder for Education, Jim Weir the Chairman of Great Denham Parish Council, Alan Davis one of your Parish Councillors and Roz Buchanan the Parish Clerk.
PARISH COUNCIL RESPONSE TO PLANNING APPLICATION 11/02211/FUL FOR A GYPSY SITE IN STAGSDEN SUBMITTED TO BEDFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL
Following an extraordinary meeting on 28th March, the Parish Council has submitted a letter to the Borough Council's Planning Department objecting to the application for a change of use of land to a site for five Gypsy families. The letter addresses the issues raised at the meeting, and you can see a copy of it by clicking here. A petition was available for signature at the meeting objecting to the application. Should you wish to add your name to the petition it is being held at The Bedford Golf Club, Carnoustie Drive, Great Denham, MK40 4FF - please just drop in and you can sign it. Many of those present asked if they could object personally, and if so, on what grounds. Please click here and you can see a list of the things which the Planning Department may take into consideration when determining a planning application, and which will form a part of the Parish Council's letter.
On 28th March the goverment issued it's new National Planning Policy Framework and it's Planning Policy for Traveller Sites which both came into immediate effect. The Parish Council believes this application will be considered by the Borough's Planning Committee when it meets on either 30th April or 28th May.
